In fact, while it may seem obvious that drinking enough water when in the sticks is crucial, the importance of drinking enough on a daily basis probably goes beyond what most people are aware of.  Here are just a few examples of the huge (and lesser known) benefits hydration can have for our health.

Hydration can aid a healthy pregnancy

It is particularly important for pregnant women to be well hydrated. This is because of the extra blood supply and nutrients needed to enable the baby to grow and flourish. Water plays a pivotal part in producing blood, as well as optimizing liver and kidney health in both mother and baby. This is what makes it vital for pregnant women to drink enough water. This means drinking 80 ounces of water each day (8-12 glasses of water), no matter your age. The availability of reusable water bottles in modern times makes it easier to keep yourself hydrated when on the go. It is also worth carefully considering what sort of water you drink in pregnancy, and learning about the risks and benefits of each kind of drinking water available.

Studies have indicated a link between sustained dehydration and certain types of cancer. As well as promoting good heart health, water helps keep our cells and immune system healthy, which in turn helps combat the potential development of cancerous cells. For example, drinking enough water can help quickly flush out anything that could potentially cause cancer, particularly can we of the bladder.

Hydration can alleviate joint pain

Another lesser known fact about being well hydrated is that it can have a positive impact on joint health. Joints are lubricated by synovial fluid, which predominantly consists of water. This helps to keep joints mobile, making it particularly beneficial to people with arthritis and other related conditions.

Make drinking water a priority

When it comes to our overall health, water plays a crucial part. Not only does it help quench our thirst, but it has a huge impact on our overall emotional and physical wellbeing. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to reach for a glass of water. Instead, make it a regular part of your day. Be sure to have at least one glass of water with each meal and snack, and incorporate foods into your diet that are high in water.
