Spending quality time with your significant other can promote bonding and strengthen your relationship. We are probably all very guilty of getting caught up in binging hours and hours of the latest Netflix series. That is okay once in a while, but you want to be sure to share hobbies, and bonding time with your significant other that can become a pastime you both enjoy or that facilitates growth and learning. The next time you can’t think of anything to do, try out one of these hobbies. You might just find your new favorite way to spend your free time!

Pick a Sport

Exercise has tremendous benefits on health and wellbeing. It is an excellent outlet for stress, and it can enhance mood, decrease anxiety and improve your overall health. Consider joining a recreational sports league together, such as co-ed softball or soccer. Tennis or golf are great options for couples who do not want to join a league. Book Club

Reading before bed can calm your body and mind, preparing you for a better night’s sleep. Set a page limit to read each day and discuss as you go along. You can take turns picking books or read books off of a reading list that interests both of you.

Learn a New Language

Learning as a couple can improve your communication skills and memory while also improving your romantic bond. Together, decide on a second language you would both like to learn. You will have your own practice partner, and you can have fun while learning at your own pace. You could set a treat for yourself to motivate you to become proficient speakers, such as planning a trip to a country that speaks that language once you are both proficient. Sprinkle in fun-themed dates along your learning journey. For example, if you are learning German, you could plan a date night at an authentic German restaurant and practice speaking in German. You could also try new German recipes. Immerse yourself into the culture of those who speak the language you choose.

Start a Garden

Gardening can be a therapeutic hobby that gets you out in the sunlight. Gardens can be in pots or vertical, making gardening possible no matter where you live. Start small with a few easy-to-grow vegetables that you both enjoy. Peppers, lettuce, beans, tomatoes and cucumbers are some of the best and easiest vegetables for beginners. Growing your own produce makes you more likely to consume more vegetables in your daily diet, which is excellent for your health. You two can also cook dinner together using produce from your garden for another fun date night idea.

Nature

Spending time outside can enhance our mood and benefit our health. Find a nature activity that you both enjoy as your new hobby. You could try camping out or going on hikes. Birdwatching is another relaxing nature activity many people enjoy. You could also learn more about the stars and spend one night per week sipping your favorite beverage and stargazing.

Hobbies are a great way to entertain yourself during your free time. They can be helpful to blow off steam, burn calories, learn and promote bonding. Finding a hobby that you and your significant other enjoy can strengthen your relationship. Learning together has been shown to increase romantic bonding, as well.
